Opening of the Australian War Memorial

The Australian War Memorial was built for the purpose of commemorating the Australian military personnel who contributed to the liberation of Denmark during World War II as well as the fallen Australian soldiers from the First World War. After the opening, Crown Princess Mary paid a visit to "The monument for Denmark’s international effort since 1948" at the Citadel (Kastellet) in Copenhagen. For the many Danes who have been deployed to conflict and catastrophe areas, for the currently deployed, for those who will be deployed in future and for those who fell in service, the Danish government decided in 2009 to establish this monument.
